The cat will curl up on almost any blanket. She really doesn’t care what is under the blanket. With the exception of Lyssa, (and me while I was pregnant) she won’t sit on anyone’s lap unless there’s a blanket across the lap. Her favorite place is a blanket with a body underneath.

Apparently this rule even applies to the dog. When Charlie managed to snuggle his head under the blanket Lyss was wrapped up in, the cat sat on Charlie’s head.

February?

Life moves fast in this house. And we aren’t even nearly as busy as some families I know. We spend a lot of time just hanging out together rather than running around to this lesson and that practice. I know some of my precious few loyal readers are waiting for birthday pictures since it has been birthday season in our house. I don’t have much to offer though. We’ve plowed right into 2010.

I only have pics of one of the three birthdays we’ve had.

Chocolate Cake

Lyssa wanted to make her brother a cake for his birthday. He requested, “chocolate, chocolate, chocolate, and chocolate.” actually I forgot how many chocolates there were but she set out to meet each chocolate. Hense the kisses and the chips on the top. It was gluten-free too.

Lucas is 15

This is fuzzy, but I love it. My 6 favorite people in the whole world!

Curtis’s last year of childhood embarked without much fanfare, the way he likes it. A little desert (preferably pie), a handful of gifts to open, brother and sisters singing, and he’s happy. FYI to the grandparents. We’ve learned that Curtis would much rather have a little something wrapped to open than a gift card. – Lucas would rather have the gift card.

Joie got her traditional heart shaped cake for her birthday but the big celebration has been postponed as mom is “under the weather”. We’ll do more fun this weekend. I should be feeling better by then. More on that later.

Can’t forget that we did have this celebration this month also:

Of course a few more pics are over at my flickr page, check them out.

Run Like Hell

Wow I have a lot of blogging that I want to do but haven’t. I can’t use not having time as an excuse either because if I’m really honest I would have to tell you that recently I’ve spent entire afternoons catching up on episodes of House, Bones, CSI and NCIS on the computer. (I love technology) But we all know how I hate September and this year, with that 5th child and daycare and the whole 4 day school week thing, September spilled right on into October. So I’ve been taking every opportunity for escape.

I do need to blog about my recent race however, so here it goes.

This event day has a 5K and a half marathon. The event is on Halloween and costumes are encouraged. I entered the half because I assumed it would be good motivation to get myself back in running condition after the baby. (Yes I did keep running through my pregnancy but I slowed my pace way down and wasn’t running longer than 2-3 miles at a time.) I decided to dress as Tinkerbell. I’m a wimp about the cold however and Tinkerbell in 40-50 degrees and possible rain was making me nervous. Very long story shorten I wore a long sleeve bright green shirt and fairy wings. I also dusted off my sewing machine and made myself a little green fairy skirt.

I picked out a 3 day a week training plan and faithfully ran 1-2 days of the plan every week. Yeah. Since I ran 12 miles three weeks before the race I knew I could run the distance. The quality was questionable however. Who cares though, I was wearing fairy wings right? uh huh.

The race was windy and running up Skyliner Ranch Rd in Bend into the wind was not so fun, even with my wings on to cheer me up. At one point when the course started up another hill I seriously thought I was going to have a seizure in my butt. I actually stopped and walked a few yards, didn’t really help. The blessed downhill came eventually. I completely ignored the fact that my SI joint would be angry that I ran the downhills fast and picked-up my pace to make up for the time I lost during the seizure.

Okay that’s the boring part of the story. If you follow on Facebook you know that I got off course. I was supposed to run under the Bill Healy bridge and up on the northwest side of the river. Instead I stayed on the bridge, crossed the river and ran up Reed Market Rd. This, my friends, was the wrong side of the river. Another girl was with me on my misadventure and about the time I realized my mistake, so did she. Luckily there is a foot bridge along there that we were able to take and get back to the course.

I figure we went about a 1/3 of a mile out of our way. We talked afterwards and I found out that her goal was also to finish under 2 hours. If we had actually run 13.1 miles we might well have finished under 2 hours. My time was 2:03:30. I’m not all that impressed. I suppose next time I will actually train all the days of my training schedule. Maybe.

So you add in that my Blackberry lost the album I wanted to listen to and my half marathon playlist I programmed, and that Lyss didn’t get to run in the kid’s run because they couldn’t find the start in time, and well, the day was rather lousy. It’s a good thing I had those fairy wings on to cheer me up.

We headed right home after the race so I could go to bed because I had to work that night. So now I’m hunting for the next half to finish in under 2 hours.

Moving Music

I am a lurker/cyber stalker of several blogs that belong to women of my church. I know that some of them lurk here on my blog too. Many times I have read on these blogs post displaying worship music that speaks to the writer. Often I find for myself, that while I do appreciate a good worship song, music that moves me the most spiritually has to also move me physically. The best songs not only get me up a hill metaphorically but also get me up a hill- literally. Are you hearing what I’m sayin’?

So, while the world of Christian music is filled with some great lyricists I still think no one beats the Peter Furler and Steve Taylor team. The song “Million Pieces” kept me sane through a very tough time. This one is my newest favorite from them and since I seem to think I’m training for a half marathon it helps to have a song that gets me up those hills.

I gotta say that the show where they spun the drums was a ton of fun. But seriously, I love the Chorus:

Put on your back pack

Throw out your road map

God’ll use anything

Check it and see.

Is there something in your life that God is asking you to “throw out your road map” for?
